Richard Money - v Lincoln City, 19/8/2006
I AM expecting a good footballing encounter on Saturday. Lincoln City's Head Coach, John Schofield has a refreshing attitude in the way that he wants to see his team play. He is a young coach that is prepared to let his players go out and express themselves and as a result we will face another stern test.
That said, we have proved already this season that we can cope with whatever style of play is thrown at us. There is a misconception about League Two being very physical, but whilst I admit that there are some managers who favour this style, there are more and more teams who want to get the ball down and play football, which is good news for both the players and supporters.
We will be without the injured James Constable, Tony Bedeau, Allan Picken, Michael Dobson, Darren Wrack and Alex Nicholls for this game, but there are still plenty of options available to me and I am comfortable with whatever starting line-up I select.
I would say that there are 18 players within the first-team squad who could come into the starting line-up without diminishing the quality of the team and that is a nice position to be in.
We are still actively looking to bring in another striker to boost our options in that area, but good, available forwards are extremely difficult to find, particularly ones that match the criteria that I am looking for. We don't want to sign players just for the sake of it and the ones that we do bring in have to fit into the jigsaw. That is why preparation and homework is so very important.
Everyone involved with this club has only had one target in mind since the summer and it is fair to say that I have never worked with a more focussed group of people. The players deserve full credit for the start that we have made to the season and a clear sign of how far we have come in the past three months came earlier this week when physio, Jon Whitney decided to turn down the opportunity of a move to Wolves in order to stay here.
It is a real coup for us as not only is he an important member of staff on the medical and treatment side of things but also with the fitness and conditioning of the players. He can see what we are trying to achieve here and wants to be part of it as we move forward.
This is going to be a real team effort and I call upon as many of you as possible to get along to Sincil Bank and give us the backing that we need in order to continue our unbeaten start.
