WE SHOWED two sides of our game on Tuesday evening that are going to be required if we are to be successful in this League.

For half-an-hour or so we were sensational with the ball, had good movement, scored a fine goal and could have easily extended our lead. Credit to Stockport, they didn't lie down and got at us in the second half, but we stood up to the test and made it two victories and two clean sheets in a row which is obviously very pleasing indeed.

We are going to have to be able to match the power and strength of certain teams at this level, whilst also having the ability to get the ball down and play when necessary and I think that we showed signs of being able to do this on Tuesday.

Our supporters were excellent once again and gave us tremendous backing throughout. I am sure that you enjoyed the action served up by both teams and I would like to think that you will turn up in numbers again on Saturday for arguably our toughest match of the week.

Like ourselves, Hartlepool United came down from League One at the end of last season and will be looking to make an immediate return. They have an experienced manager in Danny Wilson and having had them watched in recent weeks, possess some talented players.

It was important that we made a good start to the season. I am naturally delighted to have six points on the board already, but beyond that we have played well in both games with everyone knowing their role, doing what they are told and playing with commitment. With these qualities we know that we have half a chance, but it is going to be a tough examination at the weekend against a side who I believe will be up there challenging come the end of the season.

I have done all that I can to bring a positive frame of mind to the club right from day one. There are no negative thoughts allowed and the biggest bonus for me so far has been the expectation levels within the dressing room. The players expect to achieve something and are doing everything that they possibly can to make sure it happens.
