Football historian Leigh Edwards profiles every Walsall player from 60 post-war League seasons.

COLIN HARRISON: Record appearances holder who starred as Walsall reached the FA Cup fifth round in 1974-75 and 1977-78, netting 33 goals in 473 League games. He had a spell as reserve coach before playing for Rushall Olympic, then ran a carpet business in Rugeley. Now working near Bescot Stadium.

PETER HART: Versatile central defender who captained Walsall to the Milk Cup semi-finals in 1983-84 and third division play-off Final glory in 1987-88, netting 12 goals in 390 League games until retiring after his benefit match in May 1990. He became a clergyman and is still living locally.

PHIL HAWKER: Ex-England Youth central defender who helped Walsall win promotion in 1987-88 and scored ten times in 177 League games prior to joining West Bromwich Albion in September 1990, then played for Kidderminster Harriers and Solihull Borough. He currently runs Hillfield Motor Company in Solihull.

KARL HAWLEY: Young striker who signed professional for Walsall in January 2001 and made his only League appearance as a substitute in the 1-1 draw at home to Gillingham in March 2002. He had two loan spells at Raith Rovers before joining Carlisle United in August 2004, starring in two promotion campaigns and is now one of the most prolific lower League strikers.

DANNY HAY: New Zealand International central defender who joined Walsall from Leeds United in August 2002 and was a member of his country's squad in the 2003 Confederations Cup tournament. He made 45 first division appearances for The Saddlers before joining Auckland Kingz in December 2003.

ARTHUR HAYNES: Former Aston Villa outside-right who joined Walsall in May 1948, appearing in the 1-0 win at Aldershot and 0-0 draw at home to Brighton in October 1948. He joined Weymouth in July 1949, then played for Worcester and Headington, residing in Birmingham until his death in July 1990.

NICK HENRY: Former Oldham Athletic midfielder who joined Walsall from Sheffield United in March 1999 and helped clinch promotion that season, making eight League appearances for The Saddlers before moving to Tranmere Rovers in July 1999. He later became Scarborough's player-coach, then manager.

MOREIRA HERIVELTO: Brazilian midfielder who initially joined Walsall from Cruizero in August 2001 and netted five goals in 28 League outings before moving to Greek side Ionikos in January 2003. Rejoining The Saddlers on trial in December 2004, he made just one substitute appearance prior to being released.

GEORGE HESELTINE: Inside-right who made eight third division (south) appearances for Walsall prior to joining Stourbridge in July 1950. He became an electrician at Hopyard Foundries in Coseley, then spent 26 years as a local police sergeant until retiring in March 1986. Now living in Little Haywood.

RON HEWITT: Young forward who scored twice in eight League games prior to joining Darlington in June 1950. Capped five times by Wales, he also played for Wrexham (twice), Cardiff, Coventry, Hereford, Northwich, Witton and Caernarfon. He later worked at BICC in Wrexham and died in September 2001.

KEN HILL: Popular right-half who was ever-present in 1961-62 and moved to Norwich City in July 1963, rejoining Walsall in October 1966. He scored once in 130 League games overall for The Saddlers prior to joining Nuneaton Borough in July 1967, then played for Stourbridge and still resides locally in Coalpool.

GORDON HOBSON: Former Lincoln City and Southampton striker who briefly joined Walsall from Exeter City in September 1991. He made three League appearances for The Saddlers, then had a spell with Farnborough Town before moving to Salisbury in February 1992 and later joined their coaching staff.

JOHN HODGE: Winger who netted 12 goals in 75 League outings for The Saddlers before moving to Gillingham in July 1998, featuring in the 1998-99 second division play-off Final. He joined Northampton in March 2000 and helped them clinch promotion, since running a Grass Roots Soccer Coaching School in Cornwall. It was good to see him back at Bescot Stadium to watch a game in January 2007.

KEN HODGKISSON: Inside-forward who starred in Walsall's rise under Bill Moore, netting 57 goals in 336 League games before joining Worcester City in July 1966. He was Dudley Town's player-boss, then West Bromwich Albion's youth coach until February 1984, then scouted for Derby County. Settling in West Bromwich, he still comes along to the occasional game here at Bescot Stadium.

BARRY HOLBUTT: Former Aston Villa reserve centre-forward whose solitary League appearance was as substitute in Walsall's 3-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers in October 1965 and later played for Kidderminster Harriers, Stourbridge, Redditch United, Cheltenham Town and Worcester City. He now lives in Great Barr.

EDDIE HOLDING: Versatile right-back who netted six goals in 39 third division (south) outings while at Fellows Park prior to joining Barrow in July 1954, then played for Northampton Town, Nuneaton Borough, Lockheed Leamington, Evesham United and Brierley Hill. He still lives locally in retirement.

DAVID HOLDSWORTH: Former England Under-21 central defender who began at Watford with his twin brother Dean, then played for Sheffield United and Birmingham City. Loaned to Walsall in January 2002, he scored once in nine League outings while at Fellows Park, then played for Bolton, Scarborough and Gretna in the Scottish League.

BARRY HORNE: Former Welsh International midfielder, with 59 caps, who was an FA Cup winner with Everton in 1995. He joined promotion-chasing Walsall from Kidderminster Harriers in March 2001 and made three second division appearances before moving to Belper Town, since working in the media.

JOHN HORNE: Young central defender who briefly featured in Walsall's 1979-80 promotion campaign. His solitary goal in 16 League games came in The Saddlers' 3-2 defeat at Southend in January 1982 and he subsequently played for Kidderminster Harriers, Oldbury United, Ashtree Highfield and Stourbridge.

LES HORNE: Former West Bromwich Albion centre-half who joined Walsall from Plymouth Argyle in November 1952 and his solitary goal clinched a 1-0 win at home to Southampton in September 1953. Later playing for Bedford Town and Cradley Heath, he died locally in February 1986.

LEN HORTON: Centre-half who joined Walsall from Darlaston shortly after World War II and made his solitary League appearance in place of Reg Foulkes in the 3-1 defeat at home to Watford in February 1947. He rejoined Darlaston in July 1948 and resided in his native town until his death in 1987.

SCOTT HOUGHTON: Ex-England Youth winger who joined Walsall from Luton Town in September 1994 and netted 14 goals in 78 League games before moving to Peterborough in July 1996. He later played for Southend, Leyton Orient, Halifax, Stevenage, Cambridge City, Arlesey and Wootton Blue Cross. Becoming a Police Officer, he was recently appointed manager of St. Neots.

SYD HOWARTH: Former Aston Villa centre-forward who moved to Walsall from Swansea in September 1952 and made six League appearances at left-half. He returned to Merthyr Tydfil in July 1953 and helped them win the Southern League title in 1953-54. Settling in Merthyr, he died in Cardiff in January 2004.

RON HOWELLS: Former Wolves wing-half who also played for Portsmouth and Scunthorpe United prior to joining Walsall in July 1963. He made 13 third division appearances while at Fellows Park before being involved in a major betting scandal in April 1964 and was suspended for life by The Football League.

JOHN HUGHES: Versatile inside-forward who joined Walsall from local football in May 1950 and scored on his League debut in the 2-0 victory at home to Port Vale five months later. He provided reliable forward cover and netted ten goals in 44 third division (south) games for The Saddlers, settling in West Bromwich.

CHARLIE HUMPHRIES: Full-back who joined Walsall from Paget Rangers in September 1946 and was given his League debut in the 1-1 draw at Swansea in February 1948. Understudy to Irvin Methley and Norman Male, he made six League appearances for The Saddlers. He died in Birmingham in April 1995.

MICHAEL HUSBANDS: Young striker who helped Aston Villa win the FA Youth Cup in 2002 and moved via Southend United to Walsall in September 2005. He scored a hat-trick for the reserves against Barnsley that month, making four League One appearances before joining Port Vale in October 2005.

CHRIS HUTCHINGS: Former Chelsea right-back who also played for Brighton and Huddersfield Town before moving to Walsall in August 1990. He made 40 League appearances prior to joining Rotherham United in July 1991. After a spell on their coaching staff, he was coach, then manager at Bradford City and is now part of the backroom team at Wigan Athletic.
