Football historian Leigh Edwards profiles every Walsall player from 60 post-war League seasons.

ALAN DEAKIN: Former England Under-23 midfielder who moved from Aston Villa to Walsall in October 1969 and made 50 third division appearances for The Saddlers prior to joining Tamworth in August 1972. He was later a welder for the Gamwell Engineering Company (Witton) and still lives in Birmingham.

GEORGE DEAN: Local born right-half who netted 13 goals in 72 League games for The Saddlers before joining Wellington Town in July 1954, then played for Stourbridge and Lockheed Leamington. He was company secretary of Kendrick Construction Ltd for 37 years and is now a Walsall season-ticket holder.

DON DEARSON: Former Welsh International forward who joined Walsall from Coventry City in March 1950 and netted 13 goals in 51 League outings before moving to Nuneaton Borough in July 1951. He ran a grocery in Yardley, then worked at British Leyland, residing in Sheldon until his death in December 1990.

CHRIS DEMETRIOS: Young left-back who provided defensive cover as Walsall qualified for the third division play-offs in 1992-93. Signing professional for The Saddlers in August 1992, his only goal in seven League outings came in the 3-2 win at home to Scarborough three months later. He lives in Birmingham.

ISHMEL DEMONTAGNAC: England Youth striker who was Walsall's 'Young Player of the Season' in 2005-06. A former Saddlers trainee, he scored on his League debut in the 3-2 defeat at Port Vale two months before turning professional in December 2005. He netted twice in 24 League games last season.

MIAH DENNEHY: Republic of Ireland International midfielder who starred in Walsall's 1977-78 FA Cup run and netted 22 goals in 128 third division games prior to joining Bristol Rovers in July 1978, then had spells with Trowbridge and Cork. He has settled back in his native Cork and is now a porter at Jury's Hotel.

DOUG DEVLIN: Ex-Scottish Youth midfielder who was a Wolves reserve before moving to Walsall in July 1972. He made 18 League appearances prior to joining Dundalk in July 1973, then played for Raith Rovers, Telford, Tamworth, Alvechurch and Rushall. Now running Douglas Publicity Ltd. in Walsall.

JOHNNY DEVLIN: Versatile centre-forward who was Walsall's top scorer in 1949-50 and netted 49 goals in 159 League games prior to joining Bloxwich Strollers as player-boss in July 1952. He worked at Talbot Stead and had a brief spell as Walsall's reserve team coach, remaining local until his death in January 2001.

PAUL DEVLIN: Former Scotland International winger who played for Notts County, Birmingham City, Sheffield United and Watford prior to joining Walsall in January 2006. He was injured on his debut at Chesterfield and his solitary goal in eight League games clinched the Saddlers' 1-1 draw at Swansea City.

GEORGE DEWS: Former Plymouth Argyle inside-forward who joined Walsall in June 1955 and scored once in nine third division (south) games. He played cricket for Worcestershire between 1946 and 1961, then worked at the Round Oak Steelworks, residing in Brierley Hill until his death in January 2003.

TONY DINNING: Midfielder who joined Walsall on loan from Wigan Athletic in November 2003 and made five League appearances. He was also loaned to Blackpool, helping to win the LDV Vans Trophy that season. Joining Bristol City in October 2004, he has since played for Port Vale and now Stockport.

PAT DOLAN: Republic of Ireland Under-21 defender who was an Arsenal reserve before moving to Walsall in August 1986. His only League appearance was in the 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield and he also featured in the Littlewoods Cup first round first-leg win over Mansfield. His twin bother Eamonn played for Birmingham.

LOUIE DONOWA: England Under-21 winger who had spells with Norwich, Ipswich, Bristol City and Birmingham before joining Walsall on loan in October 1996. He returned from Peterborough in August 1997, scoring once in 12 League games overall, then played for Ayr, King's Lynn, Boston and Tamworth.

DON DORMAN: Experienced inside-right who was Walsall's leading marksman in 1956-57, netting 33 goals in 115 third division (south) games for The Saddlers before returning to Birmingham City as a scout in July 1957. He became their chief scout, then held a similar post at Aston Villa and died in January 1997.

ANDY DORNAN: Former Scotland Youth right-back who was an influential figure in Walsall's 1987-88 promotion campaign. He also helped take Watford to an FA Cup fifth round second replay in 1986-87 and scored once in 118 League games prior to joining Worcester City in July 1990, then played for and managed Montrose.

ALLENBY DRIVER: Experienced inside-forward who scored twice in 26 third division (south) games prior to joining Corby Town in July 1953, then played for Frickley Colliery. He was a sales rep for a confectionery firm, then worked for Union Carbine, residing in Sheffield until his death in March 1997.

JIMMY DUDLEY: Former Scotland B International who starred in Walsall's 1960-61 promotion success and ever-present in 1961-62. He netted three goals in 167 League games before joining Stourbridge in July 1964, then was a sales rep for Guests in West Bromwich where he resided until his death in April 2006.

JOHN DUGGINS: Former Portsmouth reserve forward who joined Walsall in August 1952 and netted three goals in 16 third division (south) games before moving to Burton Albion in July 1953. He later played for Kidderminster, Atherstone, Rugby and Tamworth. Now living in Netherseal in retirement.

JOBY DYAS: Christened Gordon, this young wing-half joined Walsall from Hednesford Town in June 1955 and made 12 League appearances before moving to Brierley Hill in June 1956. He later played for Halesowen, Burton Albion and Hednesford again while a bricklayer. Now living in Cannock in retirement.

WAYNE DYER: Midfielder whose solitary League appearance was as a substitute in Walsall's 2-1 win at Wycombe in August 1998. The Montserrat International has played for Hereford, Bedworth, Chesham, Kettering, Solihull, Stourbridge, Stevenage, Bedford, Sutton Coldfield, Hinckley United and Bromsgrove.

BILL EALING: Former Blackburn Rovers reserve centre-forward who joined Walsall in July 1952 but suffered a career-ending knee injury on his League debut in the following month's 3-0 defeat at Millwall. Working at Alvecote Colliery, then for Stoneware, Foseco and Smurfit, he lives in his native Tamworth.

PETER EASTOE: Ex-England Youth striker who joined Walsall on loan from West Bromwich Albion in August 1984 and scored once in six League games. Later with Sporting Farense, Atherstone United and Bridgnorth Town, he was Alvechurch's player-boss before coaching Nuneaton and since been a van driver in Hagley.

TONY EDEN: Former Aston Villa reserve centre-half who understudied Ken McPherson, featuring in Walsall's 1960-61 promotion campaign. He made 14 League appearances for The Saddlers prior to joining Kidderminster Harriers in July 1963, then played for Tamworth. Now living in Great Barr in retirement.

DAVE EDWARDS: Midfielder who turned professional in January 1992 and his only goal in 27 League outings came in Walsall's 2-1 victory at home to Scunthorpe two months later. A serious injury ended his League career and he attempted a comeback with Stafford Rangers in 1996-97 before being forced to retire.

PAT EDWARDS: Teenage outside-left whose solitary League appearance was in place of Colin Taylor in Walsall's 0-0 draw at home to Hartlepools United in February 1959. He joined Chesterfield in July 1959, then played for Hinckley Athletic, Hednesford, Kidderminster Harriers, Burton Albion and Dudley Town. Went on to run a cabinet factory and is currently a semi-retired surveyor of Quality Kitchens.

TOMMY EDWARDS: Welsh outside-left who played for Fulham, Southend, Leicester and Bath City before joining Walsall in May 1952. He contested a first-team slot with Phil Giles, making 12 League appearances for The Saddlers before joining Oswestry in July 1953. He died in Lambeth in October 2000.

RONNIE EKELUND: Danish Under-21 midfielder who briefly played for Southampton and Manchester City on loan from Barcelona. He joined Walsall from Toulouse in December 2000 and scored once in nine League outings before moving to San Jose Earthquakes in April 2001 where a back injury ended his career.

STEVE ELLIOTT: Striker who scored 21 goals in 69 League games prior to joining Bolton Wanderers in July 1986, then played for Bury, Rochdale and Guiseley. Now living in Fulwood, he has since managed Lostock Hall, Penwortham and now Bamber Bridge Leisure Centres for South Ribble Borough Council.
