Football historian Leigh Edwards profiles every Walsall player from 60 post-war League seasons.
WILLIE PENMAN:Experienced midfielder who netted six goals in 123 third division games for The Saddlers prior to joining Dundalk in July 1973, then had a spell as Cheltenham Town's manager. He also assisted Redditch United and Sutton Coldfield. Settling locally, he later worked for a sports company.
DON PENN:Young striker who netted 54 goals in 141 League outings for Walsall until a knee injury ended his career in May 1983, then briefly played for Nuneaton Borough, Oldbury United and Harrisons. He has since worked as a service engineer for Granada TV and now Fire & Safety Services in Minworth.
ERIC PERKINS:Reliable left-back who partnered Harry Haddington and missed just three matches during the 1956-57 season. His solitary goal in 67 League games clinched Walsall's 2-2 draw at Coventry City in December 1956 and he joined Hinckley Athletic in July 1959. Still living locally in retirement.
JEFF PERON:French midfielder who played for Walsall at Manchester United in the 1997-98 FA Cup fourth round. His solitary goal in 38 League games clinched The Saddlers' 1-0 victory at home to Wigan in March 1998. He joined Portsmouth in September 1998, then played for Wigan before returning to France.
DAVID PERPETUINI:Former Watford, Gillingham and Wycombe Wanderers midfielder who joined Walsall in March 2005 and played seven consecutive League games before moving to Stevenage Borough in July 2005. He has since played for Kettering Town, Lewes, Rushden & Diamonds, Barton Rovers and joined Halesowen Town in 2007.
LEN PERRY:Left-back who turned professional with Walsall in October 1950, making his League debut in the 4-1 defeat at Bristol City in September 1953. He also appeared in the next two matches and joined Wellington in July 1954, then played for Brierley Hill, residing locally until his death in January 2004.
ANDY PETTERSON:Australian goalkeeper who joined Walsall from Derry City in January 2004 as cover for Jimmy Walker's suspension. He made his debut in that month's 6-1 defeat at home to Coventry and also appeared in the next two matches against Stoke and Crewe, retiring at the end of that season. He then moved to New Zealand where he was part of the coaching staff at New Zealand Knights.
FRED PIDCOCK:Canadian goalkeeper who moved to Walsall from Moor Green in September 1953 and made his solitary third division (south) appearance as emergency cover in place of Gordon Chilvers and Doug Flack in that month's 3-0 defeat at Swindon, then returned to Moor Green. He died in August 1999.
NEIL POINTON:Former Everton and Manchester City left-back who joined Walsall from Hearts in July 1998 and was an experienced figure in the 1998-99 promotion success, making 61 League appearances before moving to Chesterfield in January 2000. He later played for Hednesford, Retford and Mossley.
LUDO POLLET:Experienced French central defender who briefly reunited with Colin Lee at Walsall on loan from Wolves in November 2002 and made five first division appearances while at Bescot Stadium. He rejoined Wolves and helped win promotion to the Premiership that season, then returned to France.
MATT POLLOCK:Scottish winger who joined Walsall from Nottingham Forest in July 1973 and made two League appearances. He moved via Burton Albion to Luton Town in March 1974, then played for Portsmouth and Queen of the South. Now working as a buyer for pharmaceutical firm Chirex in Annan.
GARY PORTER:Former England Under-21 midfielder who made 400 appearances for Watford prior to joining Walsall in June 1997. He played at Manchester United in the 1997-98 FA Cup fourth round and scored once in 44 League games while at Bescot Stadium before moving to Scarborough in February 1999. Now living in the north-east.
RON POUNTNEY:Teenage midfielder whose only League appearance for Walsall was in the 1-1 draw at home to Scunthorpe in April 1973. After spells with Port Vale and Bilston, he joined Southend United in January 1975. He moved to Chelmsford City in July 1985 and is now a painter and decorator in Southend.
DAVID PREECE:Young midfielder who helped Walsall reach the Milk Cup semi-finals in 1983-84, netting five goals in 111 League games prior to joining Luton Town in December 1984. He later played for Derby, Birmingham, Swindon, Cambridge United, Torquay and Enfield. Coaching at a number of clubs, including Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering Town, before his tragic death from cancer in July 2007.
HOWARD PRITCHARD:Ex-Welsh International winger who netted seven goals in 45 League games for Walsall prior to joining Maidstone United in October 1989, then played for Yeovil Town, Yate Town and Nailsea. He is now a driver for Frenchay Health Authority and runs his own driving school near Bristol.
BILL PRITCHETT:Ex-Hull City reserve left-back who understudied Albert Vinall and made his solitary League appearance in the 2-1 defeat at Southampton in September 1954. He later played for Hednesford and Goole, then was a delivery driver and had the Walls ice cream franchise in York, settling in Haxby.
MARK PRUDHOE:Much-travelled goalkeeper who made 26 League appearances for Walsall prior to joining Carlisle United in December 1987. He joined Darlington in March 1989 and later played for Stoke City, Bradford City, Southend United and Carlisle again before becoming a specialist goalkeeping coach.
ANDY RAMMELL:Experienced striker who was leading marksman in Walsall's 1998-99 promotion triumph and netted 23 goals in 69 League games before moving to Wycombe Wanderers in September 2000. He starred as they reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 2000-01, then finished with Bristol Rovers. He is now a postman in Bewdley.
TIM RAWLINGS:Powerful left-half who starred in Walsall's 1959-60 fourth division title triumph and scored five times in 201 League outings before moving to Port Vale in July 1963, then played for Nuneaton Borough and Coleshill. He later worked for Lucas Industries and now lives in Hall Green in retirement.
ANDY REECE:Midfielder who joined Walsall on loan from Bristol Rovers in November 1992, then returned for a second loan spell at Bescot Stadium in August 1993 and scored once in 15 third division games overall. He moved to Hereford United in November 1993, then joined the West Midlands Police. Still living locally, he turned out for the Walsall FC All-Star team in a charity game in the summer of 2007.
MARK REES:Ex-England Schoolboy International who helped Walsall win promotion in 1979-80 and reach the Milk Cup semi-finals in 1983-84. Scoring 37 goals in 237 League games, he joined Shamrock Rovers in July 1990, then had spells with Aldershot, Dover, Shrewsbury, Solihull Borough and Oldbury. He still gets along to Walsall games whenever he can and is a regular member of The Saddlers' veterans' team.
TONY RICHARDS:Versatile centre-forward who was leading marksman as Walsall soared from the fourth division to second and netted a club record 185 goals in 338 League games prior to joining Port Vale in March 1963. He later played for Nuneaton Borough and Dudley and still lives locally in retirement, getting along to the Banks's Stadium as often as he can.
MICHAEL RICKETTS:Striker who helped Walsall win promotion in 1998-99 and netted 14 goals in 76 League games prior to joining Bolton Wanderers in July 2000. The England International has since played for Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Southend, Preston and Oldham Athletic. He returned to The Saddlers on loan at the start of November 2007.
HOWARD RILEY:Former England Under-23 outside-right who netted three goals in 24 League games for Walsall before joining Atlanta Chiefs in April 1967, then played for Barrow, Rugby Town and Burton Albion. He was later a PE teacher and became education and welfare officer at Leicester City's Academy.
STUART RIMMER:Ex-England Youth striker who was Walsall's leading marksman in three consecutive seasons, netting 31 times in 88 League games prior to joining Barnsley in March 1991. He returned to Chester in August 1991 and later played for Southport and Marine. Now a postman in his native Southport.
PAUL RITCHIE:Former Scotland International defender who joined Walsall from Manchester City in August 2003 and his solitary goal in 33 League games clinched the 3-2 victory at home to Rotherham in May 2004. Later playing for Dundee United and Omonia Nicosia, he is now Dundee's youth team coach.
JIMMY ROBERTSON:Former Scotland International winger who made 16 third division appearances for Walsall before moving to Crewe Alexandra in September 1978. He later became a director of Task Force Group computer insurance and now runs Gillen Financial Services in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
MARK ROBINS:Former England Under-21 striker who featured in Walsall's 1999-2000 relegation battle, netting six goals in 40 League games prior to joining Rotherham United in June 2000. He was top scorer in their 2000-01 promotion success, then played for Sheffield Wednesday and is now Rotherham United's manager.
