Football historian Leigh Edwards profiles every Walsall player from 60 post-war League seasons.
ANDY OAKES: Former Hull City and Derby County goalkeeper who joined Walsall in March 2005 and did not miss a game until injuring a hand warming up for the match against Chesterfield in December. He made 34 League appearances before moving to Swansea City in August 2006 and is now with Darlington.
MARTIN O'CONNOR: A combative and no-nonsense midfielder who skippered Walsall to promotion in 1994-95. He joined Peterborough in July 1996, then returned via Birmingham in February 2002, scoring 24 goals in 152 League games. Moving to Shrewsbury in August 2003, he later played for Kidderminster and was manager of Halesowen Town until October 2007.
ADOLFUS OFODILE: Nigerian Under-21 striker who joined Walsall from German side Magdeburg in July 2001 and scored twice in a pre-season friendly at Dunfermline. He featured in the Worthington Cup win at Exeter City and came on as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace, joining St Pauli in April 2002.
STEVE O'HARA: Versatile defender who helped Walsall qualify for the third division play-offs in 1992-93 and netted four goals in 122 League games for The Saddlers before spending a year playing in Hong Kong. He joined Stafford Rangers in September 1995, then played for Blakenall, settling in Darlaston.
RICHARD O'KELLY: Striker who helped Walsall reach the Milk Cup semi-finals in 1983-84, netting 56 goals in 205 League games before joining Port Vale in July 1986. Rejoining The Saddlers, then Grimsby, he coached at West Bromwich Albion and Hereford. He has since assisted Sean O'Driscoll at Bournemouth and Doncaster.
SCOTT OLLERENSHAW: Australia International striker who joined Walsall from Leichhardt in August 1992, making his League debut in the 4-3 victory at Carlisle on the opening day of the season. He helped qualify for the third division play-offs in 1992-93, netting four goals in 20 League games for The Saddlers. Now settled back in his native Australia.
GARY O'NEIL: England Under-21 midfielder who joined Walsall on loan from Portsmouth in September 2003. He made seven League appearances while at Bescot Stadium. Also loaned to Cardiff City, he secured a regular Premiership slot and briefly captained Pompey before joining Middlesbrough in August 2007.
JIMMY O'NEILL: Northern Ireland International centre-forward who joined Walsall from Sunderland in December 1962, netting 13 goals in 38 League games before joining Australian side Hakoah in May 1965. He moved to Darlington in October 1967, then played for Coleraine and settled back in his native Lurgan.
LIAM O'NEILL: Irish inside-forward who had helped Belfast Celtic win the Irish League title in 1947-48 and moved to Walsall from Burnley in January 1951. Joint leading scorer in 1951-52, he netted 16 goals in 51 League outings for The Saddlers prior to joining Crusaders in July 1952 and settled back in Ireland.
SIMON OSBORN: Midfielder who played for Crystal Palace, Reading, QPR, Wolves, Tranmere Rovers, Port Vale and Gillingham before moving to Walsall in July 2003. He shared in coaching responsibilities and netted five goals in 113 League outings prior to joining Hereford in August 2006, then Bromley.
JOHN OSBORNE: Goalkeeper who helped West Bromwich Albion win the FA Cup in 1968 and was loaned to Walsall in February 1973, making three League appearances. Ever-present in the Baggies' 1975-76 promotion success, he became commercial manager of Worcestershire CCC and died in November 1998.
BRIAN O'SHAUGHNESSY: Inside-forward who joined Walsall from Bloxwich Strollers in March 1954 and made his solitary League appearance in that month's 3-0 defeat at Gillingham. Later with Hednesford, Stafford and Bloxwich again, he was an electrician for AFA Minerva until his death in January 1986.
WALTER OTTA: Argentine striker who joined Walsall from Deportes Temuco in November 1998 and made his League debut at home to Millwall. He played alongside Andy Rammell and scored the winner against Lincoln, netting three goals in eight League games, joining Spanish side Xerez in January 1999.
DEREK PACE: Former Aston Villa and Sheffield United centre-forward who joined Walsall from Notts County in July 1966. His only goal in five League games came in the 3-1 defeat at Grimsby and injury ended his career in May 1967. 'Doc' later managed Walsall Wood and died in Easington in October 1989.
GINO PADULA: Argentine full-back who played with Walter Otta at Xerez before moving to Walsall in November 1999. He made 25 first division appearances, joining Wigan Athletic in July 2000, then helped QPR win promotion in 2003-04. Moving to Nottingham Forest in August 2005, he is now with Montpellier.
BRIAN PALGRAVE: Young striker who joined Walsall from Alvechurch in July 1984 and scored once in eight League outings before briefly moving to Port Vale in October 1987. He later played for Nuneaton Borough, Bromsgrove Rovers, Stafford Rangers, Solihull Borough, Sutton Coldfield, Evesham United and Bloxwich Town.
GRENVILLE PALIN: Versatile full-back who replaced injured skipper Harry Haddington in the 1960-61 promotion campaign, netting ten goals in 129 League games prior to joining Worcester City in July 1964. He was later player-boss of Hednesford and managed Rushall Olympic. His son Leigh played for Hull City.
CHARLIE PALMER: Former Watford, Derby, Hull City and Notts County right-back who joined Walsall in July 1994 and helped win promotion in 1994-95. He scored twice in 54 League games for The Saddlers before moving to Burton Albion. Later with Moor Green, he has assisted Dean Thomas at Hinckley United but recently left the club.
RICHARD PARKER: Young striker who was a substitute in Walsall's 3-0 defeat at Barnet in November 1992. He joined Dudley in September 1993, then played for Wednesfield, Bilston, Willenhall, Stourbridge, Merthyr, Rhayader, Carmarthen, Cwmbran and Llanelli before further spells at Rhayader and Carmarthen.
PHIL PARKES: Brilliant young goalkeeper who made 52 League appearances before moving to QPR in June 1970. The England International moved to West Ham in February 1979 and was an FA Cup winner in 1980, then reunited with John Lyall at Ipswich Town in August 1990. He now runs his own building firm.
MAURICE PARTRIDGE: Former Birmingham City reserve full-back who moved to Walsall in July 1961, making his League debut in place of John Sharples in the 5-1 defeat at home to Leyton Orient two months later. He played three second division games, joining Rugby Town in July 1963. Now living in Warwick.
MARK PASTON: New Zealand International goalkeeper who joined Walsall from Bradford City in June 2004. He took over from Richard McKinney and made nine League appearances until displaced by Joe Murphy. Released in February 2005, he originally joined St. Johnstone before linking up with Napier City Rovers.
IAN PAUL: Young, versatile midfielder who starred as Walsall regained fourth division status at the first attempt in 1979-80, scoring nine goals in 70 League games before illness ended his playing career at just 20 in May 1981. He then assisted his father Jim before succeeding him as Aston Villa's kit manager last year.
JIM PAYNE: Ex-West Brom amateur centre-forward who joined Walsall in August 1955 and made his only League appearance in the 3-2 defeat at Norwich eight months later. He moved to Bromsgrove in July 1957 but a knee injury ended his career. Later an officer at Featherstone Prison, he now lives in Willenhall.
DENNIS PEACOCK: Young goalkeeper who moved to Walsall on loan from Nottingham Forest in March 1973 and made ten League appearances. He joined Doncaster Rovers in July 1975, then had a spell at Bolton Wanderers before returning to Doncaster in August 1982. Now living and working in Doncaster.
CRAIG PEAD: England Youth midfielder who failed to secure a regular first-team slot with Coventry City and moved to Walsall in March 2005. He helped win the League Two title in 2006-07 and was named in the PFA League Two 'Team of the Year', playing 88 League games before joining Brentford in July 2007.
MIKE PEARSON: Ex-Manchester City reserve inside-right who joined Walsall in May 1962 and scored on his League debut in the 3-2 win at Middlesbrough four months later. He also appeared in The Saddlers' next two second division matches, moving to Rugby Town in July 1963 and settling in his native Bilston.
DEAN PEER: Former Birmingham City midfielder who moved to Walsall in November 1993 and featured in the 1994-95 promotion campaign, netting eight goals in 45 League games prior to joining Northampton Town in August 1995. He moved to Shrewsbury Town in January 2000, then Moor Green in July 2001.
GARRY PENDREY: Former Birmingham City defender who joined Walsall as player-coach from Bristol Rovers in July 1982, scoring once in eight League outings. He was Saddlers' assistant-boss, then managed Birmingham and coached Wolves before assisting Gordon Strachan at Coventry, Southampton and Celtic.
