Football historian Leigh Edwards profiles every Walsall player from 60 post-war League seasons.

BOBBY HUTCHINSON: Experienced Scottish midfielder who joined Walsall from Bristol City in February 1987 and made 16 third division appearances for The Saddlers, then had loan spells with Blackpool and Carlisle United before retiring in May 1988. He then settled back in his native Glasgow.

ROGER HYND: Former Birmingham City central defender who played at Manchester United in the 1976-77 FA Cup third round and scored once in 89 third division games for Walsall before returning to Scotland as Motherwell's manager for a year in June 1978. He later became a PE teacher in Wishaw.

JIMMY INGER: Teenage goalkeeper who joined Walsall from Long Eaton in March 1973 and made his League debut in the following month's 1-1 draw at home to Scunthorpe. He also appeared in The Saddlers' 1-0 defeat by Halifax on the final day of that season. Rejoining Long Eaton, he still lives in Nottingham.

ALEC JACKSON: Former West Bromwich Albion winger who netted seven goals in 38 League games for Walsall before moving to Nuneaton Borough in July 1968, then played for Kidderminster, Warley, Oldbury, Darlaston, Blakenall, Gornal and Rushall. He became an assistant slitter for a Tipton-based company.

ROBBIE JACKSON: Ex-Manchester City trainee striker who joined Walsall in March 1991 and scored twice in ten League outings before moving to Droylsden in November 1992. He later played for Radcliffe Borough, Stalybridge Celtic, Flixton, Salford, Curzon Ashton, Stalybridge again and Caernarfon Town.

KEVIN JAMES: Former Gillingham midfielder who joined Walsall on loan from Nottingham Forest in January 2006 and scored on his debut against Barnsley in the FA Cup third round. His solitary goal in 15 League games came in the 2-2 draw at home to Bradford City and he was unable to prevent relegation.

JOHN JARMAN: Former Wolves wing-half who contested a place with Henry Walters during Barnsley's 1954-55 third division (north) title campaign and moved to Walsall in June 1956. He scored in that season's 7-1 victory at home to Millwall, netting twice in 37 third division (south) games for The Saddlers.

RON JEFFRIES: Former Aston Villa reserve centre-forward who joined Walsall in November 1953 and made three third division (south) appearances for The Saddlers before moving to Tonbridge in February 1954. He later played for Kettering Town and Stourbridge, then ran an ironmongers shop near St. Andrews.

LINDLEY JENKINS: Young midfielder who briefly appeared in the top-flight with Birmingham City prior to joining Walsall in July 1974. He made three third division appearances in place of Nick Atthey during the 1974-75 season when The Saddlers reached the FA Cup fifth round, then played for Tividale.

GLENN JOHNSON: Ex-England Youth goalkeeper who joined Walsall on loan from Doncaster Rovers in December 1972 and made three League appearances in place of Bob Wesson. He joined Aldershot in July 1973 and was virtually ever-present over the next ten seasons, starring in their 1978-79 FA Cup run.

GEORGE JOHNSTON: Scottish striker who joined Walsall on loan from Birmingham City in September 1970, scoring once in five League appearances. He moved to Fulham in October 1970, then played for Hereford and Newport County. Settling back in Cardiff, he now works for a marine engineering company.

CHRIS JONES: Striker who netted 14 goals in 59 League games for Walsall before moving to York City in June 1973. He later played for Huddersfield Town, Doncaster Rovers, Rochdale, Le Havre, Bridlington Trinity and Rowntree Mackintosh. Settling in York, he ran a guesthouse, then became a supply PE teacher.

GWYN JONES: Former Leeds United reserve inside-forward who joined Walsall from York City in November 1953 and made his League debut in that month's 5-1 defeat at Northampton. He played ten third division (south) games as The Saddlers battled vainly to avoid finishing bottom for the third year running.

MARK JONES: Young right-back who signed professional for Walsall in January 1986 and featured in the 1987-88 third division play-off Final replay triumph. He made eight League appearances for The Saddlers prior to joining Hereford United in August 1989, then played for Hednesford Town and Stafford Rangers. Still lives locally.

PAUL JONES: Midfielder who netted 15 goals in 143 League games prior to joining Wolves in November 1989. He joined Kettering in July 1991, then played for Stafford Rangers, Hednesford Town, Moor Green (twice), Bilston (twice), Blakenall, Atherstone United, Paget Rangers, Great Wyrley and Pelsall Villa. Currently on the coaching staff at Chasetown.

ROBBIE JONES: Ex-England Schoolboy striker who appeared in the top-flight with Leicester City before moving to Walsall in August 1986. He made five League appearances prior to joining Kidderminster Harriers in July 1987, then played for Burton Albion, VS Rugby, Burton Albion again and Ravenstone.

SID JONES: Former Arsenal reserve right-back who joined Walsall in July 1948 and made his League debut in the following month's 2-1 win at Norwich. Ever-present in 1950-51, he scored once in 146 third division (south) games before joining Weymouth in June 1952. He died in Colchester in September 1977.

STAN JONES: Centre-half who moved to West Brom in May 1960 and rejoined The Saddlers in March 1968, netting seven goals in 236 League games overall before moving to Burton Albion in July 1973. He then played for Kidderminster, Hednesford, Coleshill and was Walsall's trainer-coach, settling locally.

STEVE JONES: Versatile right-back who followed Frank Sibley from QPR to Walsall in January 1979 and made 15 League appearances prior to joining Wimbledon in July 1979. A knee injury ended his career and he had a wholesale wine business in Kingston before running nightclubs in Wimbledon and Windsor.

MICK KEARNS: Republic of Ireland International goalkeeper who was ever-present for Walsall in three successive seasons, moving to Wolves in July 1979. He rejoined The Saddlers in August 1982 and made 275 League appearances before working as a steward in Aldridge. He has headed Walsall FC's thriving community programme for over 15 years.

OLLIE KEARNS: Ex-Reading and Oxford United striker who joined his older brother Mick at Walsall in August 1982 and netted 11 goals in 38 League games before moving to Hereford United in June 1983. He later played for Wrexham, Kettering, Rushden & Diamonds and RC Warwick, settling back in Banbury.

DEAN KEATES: Battling midfielder who starred in Walsall's 1998-99 and 2000-01 promotion campaigns, scoring nine goals in 159 League games while at Bescot Stadium before moving to Hull City in August 2002. He played for Kidderminster Harriers and Lincoln City prior to rejoining Walsall in January 2006.

JOHN KEISTER: Sierra Leone International midfielder who joined Walsall from Southwark Faweh in September 1993 and was a promotion winner in 1994-95. He scored twice in 106 League games prior to joining Chester in January 2000, then played for Shrewsbury Town, Stevenage Borough and Margate. Currently turning out for Dover Athletic.

DAVID KELLY: Republic of Ireland International striker who starred in Walsall's 1987-88 promotion success, netting 63 goals in 147 League games before joining West Ham in August 1988. He then played for Leicester, Newcastle, Wolves, Sunderland, Tranmere, Sheffield United, Motherwell and Mansfield. He has been a key member of the coaching staff at both Sheffield United and Preston North End in recent years.

FRED KELLY: Versatile centre-forward who scored for Walsall against Liverpool in the 1946-47 FA Cup third round, then helped The Saddlers finish third in the third division (south) in 1947-48. He featured at right-back and netted six goals in 16 League games before leaving in May 1948, then played local football.

JIMMY KELLY: Former Preston North End reserve centre-forward who joined Walsall from Swindon Town in February 1959 and his solitary goal in eight fourth division games clinched the following month's 1-1 draw at Southport. He later played for Yeovil Town, then had a spell as Bourne Town's player-coach.

JIMMY KELLY: Irish winger who appeared in the top-flight with Wolves prior to joining Walsall in August 1978 but was unable to prevent relegation in 1978-79. He netted three goals in 27 League outings for The Saddlers and later played for United States side Portland Timbers, then Kidderminster Harriers.

JIMMY KELLY: Midfielder who joined Walsall on loan from Wolves in March 1993 and scored twice in ten League outings while at Bescot Stadium. He also had a loan spell back at Wrexham before serving a five-year prison sentence, then played for Hednesford Town, Doncaster Rovers, Chester and Scarborough.
