Colin Harrison
COLIN Harrison is Walsall FC's record appearance maker and a player who gave the club tremendous service for 19 years; indeed only two other players, Nick Atthey and Colin Taylor, have played over 500 games for The Saddlers.
Signed as an amateur in June 1961, Harrison turned professional on November 13th 1963 and made his League debut against Southend United the following September in the outside-left position. During his early days with the club he occupied a number of positions, including both wing-half berths, but it was finally as a full-back where he settled best, going on to become one of Walsall's finest-ever servants.
His football was played exclusively in Division Three as injury meant that he played only once when The Saddlers were in Division Four in 1979/80 but appeared 19 times when the club were back in the third division the following season. His last appearance was in the number three shirt against Chesterfield in September 1981.
For a time Harrison acted as reserve team trainer at Fellows Park and later he had several good seasons playing for local non-League outfit Rushall Olympic.
He still turns out for the Walsall FC Veterans team to this day.
