Merson Backing Youngster To Do Well
TEENAGE goalkeeper, Rene Gilmartin will take his place between the posts on Saturday as we lock horns with League One rivals, Yeovil Town in the FA Cup second round (kick-off 3.00pm).
With Joe Murphy unavailable and Andy Oakes still on the comeback trail, the 18 year-old will follow up his appearance in the last round at Merthyr Tydfil by facing The Glovers. "I am not worried in the slightest about throwing the lad in," said manager, Paul Merson. "He did well for me in the previous round against Merthyr and that will give him plenty of confidence.
"It will be different this time with us playing at home, and in many ways it is a bigger game as we are just 90 minutes away from a potential big tie in the next round, but he is a level-headed lad and won't let me down."
Yeovil have lost their last four League One games in between disposing of Macclesfield Town after a replay to set up what will be their first visit to Bescot Stadium since November 1991 when, as a non-League outfit, they chalked up a 1-0 win in an FA Cup first round replay. "Yeovil have stuttered in recent games, but you can be sure that they will be well up for this one," added Merson. "It's going to be a stern test, but my players are full of the confidence that comes with winning matches.
"We should have got something out of our visit to Huish Park earlier in the season but ended up not only losing the game but also seeing one of our most important players break his leg."
If you can't make it to the game, fear not because Saddlers World will have live, full match commentary, in association with BBC WM.
