MICK Halsall and Bill Jones have guided The Saddlers' youngsters to the Puma Youth Alliance North-West Conference title.

In what was a fantastic achievement for all involved, top-spot was clinched with a superb 3-0 victory at Boundary Park against Oldham Athletic. "We started the game quite well, but it took us around 20 minutes to stamp our authority on proceedings," said Halsall. "The breakthrough eventually came just past the 20-minute mark when Will Grigg finished well.

"The game ebbed and flowed for the remainder of the first half and the home side missed a couple of chances.

"During the interval I emphasised to the lads the need to keep focussed on the issue at hand; it was our title to lose, but Grigg bagged two more goals to complete his hat-trick and confirm the victory in what was a solid overall display.

"All credit must go to the lads for their performances this season. It's been a real squad effort and everyone involved must be congratulated for their application and dedication throughout the campaign."
