THE SADDLERS completed the double over Millwall with a convincing 3-0 pre-Christmas win to continue our fine run of form.

Walsall were working hard to get a grip on the game in the early exchanges.

A free-kick in a good position in the 13th minute was dragged just wide by former Millwall man, Peter Sweeney.

At the other end, Marcus Bignot's inviting cross on the quarter-hour mark was met with a firm header from Gary Alexander that was narrowly off target.

A high ball in search of Michael Ricketts by Rhys Weston fell into the path of Darren Wrack who fired well over before another effort by Alexander for the visitors flew wide from just outside the area.

On 26 minutes the ball found its way over to Ricketts via Troy Deeney but he blazed well over.

A couple of miutes later, Weston was able to pick out Ricketts' head with a perfect long ball. Ricketts' ball across the face of goal was seized upon by Tommy Mooney in front of goal and he made no mistake to open the scoring.

The lively Alexander then linked up well with Adebayo Akinfenwa who went close just after the half-hour.

A corner from Richard Taundry, who was making his first senior start, caused problems for Lenny Pidgeley in The Lions' goal who managed to clear under pressure. As the second corner was only half-cleared, Mooney latched on to a through-ball to break the offisde trap and round the 'keeper before slotting home from a tight angle.

On the stroke of half-time, a slip in the Millwall defence allowed in Ricketts who played a teasing ball across the face of the goal which was deflected into his own net by Neil Harris to make it 3-0 to The Saddlers.

There was a change at half-time as Alex Nicholls replaced Ricketts and he was soon involved in the action as he battled well to create an early chance for Mooney, however, the ball skidded just beyond him off the greasy surface.

A positive run by Sweeney ended with him being brought down by Robinson. The resulting free-kick from Taundry saw Scott Dann join the attack to head into the danger zone as the visitors scrambled the ball clear only as far as Sweeney whose effort was superbly tipped over by Pidgeley.

In the next attack, Robinson a Zak Whitbread got in a muddle which almost resulted in another own goal.

The Saddlers were in dominant form at the start of the second period and the solid Weston unleashed a screamer that produced another fine save from Pidgeley.

Bradley was forced to hobble out of the action on 58 minutes as Edrissa Sonko came on to replace him.

There was a scare for Walsall as the visitors pushed for a way back into the game but their raid ended with a foul on Anthony Gerrard.

At the other end, Sweeney did well to dig out a cross for Mooney as Robinson was alert to clear the danger.

With 14 minutes left on the clock, Harris blasted over after he found space on the left of the penalty area, but it just wasn't to be his or Millwall's day.

Ishmel Demontagnac came on for Deeney just moments before a low cross from the right by Sonko was met with a diving header from Mooney which produced a smart fingertipped save by Pidgeley.

A mistake by Robinson, under pressure from Mooney, with time running out presented Sonko with the opportunity to break through and hit a low effort that was blocked by the 'keeper.

In the end, The Saddlers ran out convincing winners in their final home game of 2007.
