THE SADDLERS ran out 3-2 winners on a dramatic night at the Keepmoat Stadium.
There was a booking for Daniel Fox within the first five minutes for a robust challenge as skipper, Tommy Mooney also saw yellow in the same incident for failing to retreat at the resulting free-kick.
Some good defending by Fox saw him get ahead of Guy to clear up the danger as the home side looked to take the initiative.
Rovers took the lead just past the quarter-hour mark when a corner was met with a firm header by Matthew Mills who gave Clayton Ince absolutely no chance from close range.
After Ishmel Demontagnac was booked for a foul, The Saddlers were presented with a free-kick in a dangerous position on 26 minutes which Fox lashed goalwards and the ball took a wicked deflection to beat Neil Sullivan in the home goal to make it 1-1.
It was Walsall's first real attempt at goal, but boosted by the equaliser we started to increase the pressure and Demontagnac won a free-kick which Michael Dobson delivered invitingly into the danger zone but Sullivan was able to gather.
The Saddlers were playing some neat stuff and Edrissa Sonko did well to cross from the right and win a corner which came to nothing.
With six minutes to go until half-time, Walsall switched off at a free-kick and this allowed Guy to latch onto a through-ball to convert in off the post.
Trailing at the interval, we made a bright start to the second period and Sonko's cross in the first attack was met with a deft header from Demontagnac as the ball just evaded Mooney.
Then Demontagnac was involved again as his low ball flashed across the face of goal.
As Walsall continued to apply the pressure, Mooney cut inside to hit a shot against the crossbar, before Mark Bradley tried his luck from distance as space opened up in front of him only for Sullivan to tip the ball over.
From the resulting corner, Bradley's header was well saved by Sullivan as Richard Money's men forced a series of corners.
Another save by Sullivan, this time to keep out Mooney's diving header, kept the home side in it, but the resistance was finally broken when Sonko was fouled out wide and the free-kick was met at the far post by Bradley who headed home from close range.
It wasn't long before The Saddlers took the lead that our pressure deserved as Sullivan needlessly kicked out at Demontagnac to concede a penalty. Mooney stepped up to take the spot-kick and fired home with much aplomb.
Darren Wrack pulled up with a strain and was immediately replaced by Rhys Weston before Dwayne Mattis was booked for a foul.
On 82 minutes Sonko put in a deep cross that was headed back across goal by the lively Bradley as Jason Price headed out from under his own crossbar.
There was still time for the home side to win a last-minute penalty when Weston was adjudged to have commited a foul right on the edge of the area. However, justice was done when the spot-kick was fired well wide.
With David McDermott on in place of Demontagnac, things got worse for Rovers when Guy was dismissed for something that he said to the referee.
In the end, The Saddlers thoroughly deserved the three points following an outstanding second half display.
