THE SADDLERS were held to goalless draw by Luton Town.
The visitors had a free-kick in a dangerous position following a foul by Tommy Mooney which saw David Bell fire well over.
There was a booking for Anthony Gerrard just past the quarter-hour mark following a full-blooded challenge on Marc Wilson.
The first opening for Walsall came on 21 minutes when Ishmel Demontagnac used his pace to burst past Chris Perry before dragging his shot just wide of the target.
Calvin Andrew forced his way through for Luton on 24 minutes only for Clayton Ince to block well with his feet.
At the other end, Mooney linked up well with Michael Ricketts whose progress was halted by a timely challenge. The resulting corner flashed invitingly across the face of goal before being half-cleared as far as Daniel Fox whose effort from distance was saved by Dean Brill and then gathered at the second attempt.
Just past the half-hour, the ball found its way across goal from the left and caught Ricketts unaware as he failed to make a proper connection.
With ten minutes to go until the interval, Gerrard lifted the ball back into the danger zone where Ricketts was presented with a chance which landed just over as Brill scrambled across his goal.

Ten minutes into the second period, McVeigh almost got onto the end of a low cross into the box as he found space in front of goal.
Then a free-kick delivered high to the far post was headed back into the danger zone by Jaroslaw Fojut as The Saddlers were forced to scramble clear under pressure in front of goal.
It was The Hatters who had the early second half momentum and David McDermott came on to replace Hall.
On 66 minutes Mooney chased a long punt forward by Ince but he was crowded out before a slip by Dann at the other end almost let in the visitors.
A sharp turn and powerful shot by Mooney was well saved by Brill who managed to hold on to the ball.
There was a change on 82 minutes as Demontagnac was replaced by first-year professional, Richard Taundry who got his first taste of first-team action.
As the game petered out, McDermott dragged an effort well wide as the game ended goalless.
